The novel belongs to, or at least is adjacent to, the literature of the “lost generation.” The heroine of the novel, Connie Chatterley, weeps bitterly about her “lost generation.” Men, scorched by the war, unable to find a place for themselves in the post-war devastation, seek refuge in an intimate relationship with a woman as their only salvation.
The novel “Lady Chatterley's Lover” caused a lot of noise in its time. He was reviled, he was extolled, he was read. The word “Bestseller” was not in use then, otherwise it would certainly have been applicable to him.
