Natasha returns to a small town near Moscow to accept an inheritance from her dead sister. She is the last of a large family whose members have all died, one by one, within a few years. The older brother died, falling into a ravine, another, a taxi driver, was killed by an unknown passenger, and now, my sister committed suicide. Natasha cannot believe Anyuta's suicide. She was a completely self-sufficient person, pious, kind, a little out of this world.
