Both historians and ordinary readers have an ambiguous attitude towards Emperor Paul the First. For a long time he was portrayed as a madman, an adherent of empty parades and drill, a persecutor of Suvorov. But this is only one side of his personality. The Russian historian N.K. Schilder (1842-1902), who was not published in the post-revolutionary period, having collected a huge number of documents, testimonies of contemporaries, letters, reports, created objective portraits of Russian autocrats. These works are unique in that they trace the life of royalty from day to day, from birth to death. This book recreates a true picture of the reign of Paul the First, the ambiguity of his activities, in which there were by no means only negative sides.
