Not far from Cuba, an unknown fighter shoots down the plane of a small private airline, the Trans-Caribbean Charter Service, with a valuable cargo on board. Together with the crew, the family of one of the owners of the airline, John Talbot, perishes. Talbot is the manager and dispatcher of a small air carrier company in Florida. He heard live how the plane in which his family was flying was shot. And now he had only one goal - to take revenge. Three years later, we see him already in the dock. After being accused of stealing jewelry and killing a policeman, Talbot escapes right from the courtroom, "accidentally" taking a charming girl hostage - a certain Miss Ruthven. But in McLean's novels, some kind of plan is often hidden behind chance...
As in other McLean's novels, the reader is kept in suspense until the very end and does not understand why the main character does certain things.
