The book gives valuable advice on compiling questionnaires, indicates how the order of the questions, their wording affects the answers of the respondents.
The book contains a large amount of information of a sociological-"technological" nature. Sometimes this information is presented as if in the vein of a textbook, which can be attributed to the number of positive aspects of the book, especially since the experience of the Institute of Demoscopy is not presented dogmatically, it encourages reflection.
One of the features of the "technological" material presented in the book is that that to some extent it breaks our preconceived notions, for example, about correlations. Many of our sociologists believe that mathematicians should deal with correlations, in any case, they are established mathematically. E. Noel-Neumann takes a different point of view. Instead of mathematical correlation abstracted from the content, she proposes a method of logical meaningful correlation, which is based on multiple regrouping of the material and its comprehension. Such a correlation is carried out without the help of computer technology and programs that allow you to calculate double or triple correlations. It is enough to do with sorting, which gives groupings, and your own analysis of the material.
The book lists various auxiliary tools that facilitate such an analysis: the method of compiling and using tables of double and triple correlations, etc. There are interesting tricks that allow using these tables establish false dependencies (correlations) and interfering factors, about which the respondents themselves often do not have a clear idea. Such methods of material analysis make it possible to penetrate deeper into the essence of the phenomena being studied, to overcome, to a certain extent, the level of "personal opinions" that depend on individual characteristics and other subjective moments.
