Memories of a Soviet captain of the fishing fleet.

In recent years, the attention of the world community has been increasingly drawn to the necessary measures for the conservation of fish stocks in the world's oceans. One by one, countries protect their interests by expanding the zone of their territorial waters, limiting the catch. Until now, little was known about the behavior of the Soviet fishing fleet in this regard. This gap is filled by the notes of the captain of the Soviet floating fish factory V. Lysenko, who left the Soviet Union in 1975 in order not to take any more part in the crimes committed against his will. Captain Lysenko tells - his book is written in a living, colloquial form - about the predatory extermination of fish stocks of the oceans by the Soviet fishing fleet, which trades far from their native shores. He describes the merciless exploitation of Soviet sailors, forced to work in the most difficult conditions for a miserable wage. He talks about rates and wages, about the intensification of labor, about hiring and "opening" foreign visas, finally about accidents due to negligent repairs and much more. Captain V. Lysenko's book is full of portraits and scenes written off from life, depicting the appearance and customs of Soviet big and small bosses, starting with Khrushchev and ending with pompolits (assistant captains for political affairs) and employees of the KGB Water Department. It shows how deeply the party and the state security agencies have launched their tentacles into the fleet, interfering with its normal activities, exposing people to constant political and economic surveillance and persecution, organizing intelligence and subversive activities abroad.
