"Night Stories" (1990) is the second book of the famous writer, chronologically preceding the novel "Smilla and her sense of snow" (1992), and Heg's only book of short stories. Each of these stories could have been turned into a novel in its own right, but Peter Heg didn't. "Night Stories" is nine stories set on the same night in different parts of the world: in the Belgian Congo, in Paris, in the port of Lisbon, in Copenhagen and, of course, "on the very edge of Denmark". But, as always with Peter Heg, the main events unfold in the inner space of a person, whether he is a mathematician, a judge, a dancer, a mirror master, an avant-garde artist or a failed leader of the Danish fascists. United by a common "night" tone, all these stories are "one way or another - about love", loneliness and the search for final clarity, "under the circumstances that they were on the night of March 19, 1929"
