The writer has been creating a novel for more than twenty years. In 1848, on the eve of the revolution, it seems to Victor Hugo that the novel he has written is almost finished. However, the events that have occurred make him rethink his views, and he realizes that what he has written does not fully reflect his understanding of life, and he still has a lot of work to do. Initially, Hugo called his work "Poverty", but later changed it to "Misérables", which means "Unfortunate" in Russian, and "Les Miserables" in an adapted literary version. The plot built at the very beginning gradually acquires new chapters and is enriched with historical events through which the transformation of the characters takes place.
