More info

World fame came to the American writer Harriet Beecher Stowe after the publication of the novel 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. This novel was published in 1852 and shocked readers. This is an unusually poignant book about the horrors of slavery and a person's faith in God, about true love and human tragedies. Beecher Stowe depicted with amazing clarity the inhumanity of slavery, when a person becomes an object of sale and purchase, and his life is worthless. The characters of the novel - the slave Uncle Tom, who dutifully met his fate, the mulatto Harris and his courageous wife Eliza, who escaped to Canada, the planter's concubine Cassie, who avenged her desecrated dignity - are unusually vital and colorful.
