The essay highlights the combat path and military activities of the commanders of the troops, chiefs of staff of the fronts and commanders of the combined arms, tank and air armies and air defense armies during the war years. Through their biographies, the glorious heroic path of the Red Army during the war can be traced. The essay provides updated data on the number of commanders. Previously, it was believed that 40 people commanded the fronts, 183 armies, and 39 people were the chiefs of staff of the fronts. Archival documents testify that 43 people commanded the fronts, 280 people commanded the armies, and 63 people headed the headquarters of the fronts. The names of all of them and biographical data are given in the essay. When writing the work, archival documents of the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command, the State Defense Committee, the People's Commissariat of Defense and the General Staff, as well as the works of the Institute of Military History of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, memoirs of Soviet military leaders, the works of M.A. Gareeva, A.A. Pechenkina, I.I. Kuznetsov and other authors. This essay is a modest contribution of the Club of military leaders of the Russian Federation to perpetuate the memory of the commanders of the fronts and armies, the pride of our Fatherland. The book is intended for military leaders, officers, war veterans, the Armed Forces, as well as for readers interested in Russian military history.
