Новое назначение

A novel by the famous Soviet writer A. Beck (1903-1972). As in other works of the writer ("Volokolamsk Highway", "Berezhkov's Life", etc.), it is based on documentary material, the scope of which is widely expanded by the author's observations and generalizations. In the center of the novel is the image of a prominent leader of the Soviet industry of the 30s - I. Tevosyan, who under Stalin held the post of Minister of the Metallurgical Industry and Ferrous Metallurgy. The novel did not express dissident views, however, having already been announced for publication in the Novy Mir magazine, it was removed from the issue. Not the last role in the prohibition of the novel was played by Tevosyan's widow, who considered that too many details of the private life of her late husband were revealed in the New Appointment. The novel was first published in Germany in 1972; in the USSR, publication became possible only in 1986.
