Academic four-volume normative explanatory dictionary of the modern Russian literary language, created on the basis of the card index “Dictionary of the modern Russian literary language”, collected by the Dictionary Sector of the Institute of the Russian Language of the USSR Academy of Sciences and containing selections from works of fiction since the time of A. S. Pushkin and works journalistic and scientific literature of the 19th—20th centuries. Contains commonly used vocabulary and phraseology of the Russian literary language as of the time of publication. In terms of purpose and volume, the dictionary is close to the “Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language” edited by D. N. Ushakov. Contains about 80 thousand in the first edition, about 90 thousand vocabulary units in the second edition.
