Born and raised in the former East Prussia, Yuri Buida worked as a journalist there for many years and at the same time wrote his strange, unlike anything prose. His heroes - each in their own way - solve for themselves the issues of the relationship between fiction and reality, and this occupies them so much that the concepts themselves become indistinguishable in their lives, just as it is sometimes impossible to distinguish a cloud from a high-flying bird in the sky. Such are the characters in Buida's stories, and in the novel `Yermo`, the main character of which is a writer who was taken from Bolshevik Russia as a baby and grew up in the USA. This is an exemplary cosmopolitan (like Borges, Nabokov or Joyce) and at the same time (like almost every our compatriot - an emigrant) - Russian to the marrow of his bones. Being and creativity coexist so closely in his soul that sometimes he himself is unable to separate his fantasies from reality. You can feel sorry for such a person. Or ... envy him?
