Book 1972. The monograph is based on 15 years of experience in studying congenital diseases of the colon in children requiring surgical treatment. The authors have more than 1000 observations of patients aged from the neonatal period to 14 years, the vast majority of whom underwent surgery. Rational classifications, examination and surgical preparation schemes have been developed, and surgical techniques have been improved.  Much attention is paid to issues of diagnosis, tactics, and comparative assessment of various methods of surgical intervention.  Follow-up information is provided. The result of the work done was a reduction in mortality and disability. The monograph consists of general and special parts. The general part discusses issues of embryogenesis and pathogenesis, provides data from the anatomy and function of the colon in their applied meaning, and highlights the general principles of examination, diagnosis and performance of proctological operations in children. A special part is devoted to the main groups of diseases - megacolon and anorectal anomalies. The book is intended for pediatric and general surgeons, pediatricians, and scientists. Senior students at medical universities will also read it with interest.
