When Mate Sverin, the financial director of a large-scale social project launched by the commune of Fjällbaki, was found shot in the back of the head, detective Patrick Hedström faced several difficult questions.

First of all, what was Mate like? Literally every one of his fellow countrymen spoke purely positively about him - but at the same time they knew nothing about him. Therefore, Sverin had something to hide.

Secondly, is the murder related to Mats’ work - or are there personal motives involved? The second option is quite possible, because Patrick learned that Mats’s old love had recently returned to these parts. Literally on the day of his death, he sailed on a boat to visit her, to an old house on an island with an abandoned lighthouse.
