The book of the famous military historian I.B. Meshchansky is devoted to the use of the armored forces of the Red Army in the longest operation of the Great Patriotic War - the battle for Leningrad. From 1941 to 1944, the forces of the Northwestern, Northern, Leningrad and Volkhov fronts, as well as several separate armies, did everything to save the city on the Neva for our country and human culture. The presented work describes the little-known operations of the battle near Leningrad, as well as the life and activities of headquarters, formations, and, often, ordinary tankers. Based on archival and historical-literary documents, the author describes the tragic and comic incidents that so well characterize the national identity of our people. The most detailed analysis is devoted to the Sinyavino operation (August 19 - October 1, 1942) - an unsuccessful attempt by the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts to break the blockade of Leningrad.
