Karl Kautsky (1854-1938) - German economist, historian and publicist. Theorist of classical Marxism. The Origin of Christianity (1908) focuses on the social background to the rise of Christianity. The author analyzes the economic, political and spiritual prerequisites that gave rise to the need for a new religion, shows on what historical basis and under the influence of what external influences Jewish monotheism developed and how the Christian Church arose on its basis. The author explains why the memory of the founder of the original Christian community did not disappear as completely as the memory of other messiahs.

This book is the result of Kautsky’s many years of work on the study of religious and church issues. The book reveals the most important aspects of early Christianity from the point of view of a materialistic understanding of history, as well as the social preconditions for its emergence.
