To the 500th anniversary of his birth. Exhibition catalogue. The author of the introductory article A.V. Ippolitov.
Francesco Mazzola, nicknamed Parmigianino, a brilliant mannerist, in whose life and work merged refined intellectualism and deep religiosity, open eroticism and asceticism of despair, interest in the occult and Christian detachment. A child prodigy who captivated with talent, he withdraws into himself, flees from worldly glory and bequeaths to bury himself naked, with a cypress crucifix. In the year of his death, he was 37 years old.
Infinitely reproduced in engraving, Parmigianino's work had a huge impact on all the art of Europe. The catalog contains more than a hundred works created at different times in different countries, but devoted to one topic - the interpretation of the work of this outstanding master. The highlight of the catalog is the publication of a drawing by Parmigianino from the Hermitage collection, previously unknown in art history, and a multitude of engravings exhibited for the first time not only in Russia, but throughout the world. The scientific catalog is accompanied by an introductory article that tells about the life and work of the artist.
