Aleksey Kurbanov (b. 1971, Novgorod) is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory in composition (prof. A. D. Mnatsakanyan) and organ (prof. N. I. Oksentyan), author of a Ph.D. thesis in organ music 60–90- 1990s (2000). He trained at the Conservatory of Rotterdam (Holland) in the classes of organ, organ improvisation, composition and piano, participated in master classes of leading European organists. Laureate of a number of composer and organ competitions and festivals. He is the author of about 170 compositions, including symphonies, choral, vocal, piano, organ and chamber-instrumental works. Since April 2000, Kurbanov has been living in the city of Aure (Norway). He is the organist of St. Maria and an organ and piano teacher at a local music school. Member of the Union of Composers of St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Wagner Union, the Association of Cantors and Organists of Norway, and the Trondheim Chamber Music Society.
