The Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Institute of History. With an appendix of 18 schemes.
In 1955, the collection "Commander Kutuzov" was published, most of the articles of which were devoted to the epic of 1812, but the main attention was paid to its second stage, when M.I. Kutuzov. In the article by N.F. Garnich "Battle of Borodino" a new periodization of the battle was proposed: instead of four stages, the author divided it into three, which corresponded to the actions of the Russian troops (previously, the division of the battle into stages was based on the actions of the French army). The author's conclusion is convincing that the battle was given by Kutuzov in order to bleed the Napoleonic army and create conditions for a counteroffensive. Of great interest were the articles by A.I. Kochetkov "M.I. Kutuzov - the organizer of Russian partisan detachments" and P.G. Ryndzyunsky "M.I. Kutuzov - the head of the people's militia and peasant partisan detachments." The articles contain interesting materials that testify to Kutuzov's constant attention to the people's militias and partisan detachments. A.I. Kochetkov's position that the concept of "guerrilla warfare" includes the actions of two armed groups - the civilian population, primarily the peasantry, and military detachments separate from the army, was of great theoretical importance. Attached are diagrams.
