The author tells about the greatness of the national feat in the war of 1812. Shows that it was the popular resistance that made the lightning war planned by Napoleon against Russia impossible, reveals the significance of the strategy chosen by Kutuzov. Particular attention is paid to guerrilla warfare. The role of civil and army journalism, the artistic word in the education of patriotism and national self-consciousness is highlighted. The importance of the victory of the Russian army in the war of 1812 for the rise of the liberation struggle of the European peoples is emphasized.
