The author paid the main attention in his book to the personal relationship between Catherine II and His Serene Highness, the most important events in his biography. A wide range of opinions and assessments of G. Potemkin’s activities were analyzed and general conclusions were drawn about the perception of his figure by his contemporaries and descendants. The personality of this extraordinary person, who had many talents, abilities for science, a brilliant military man and administrator, deservedly attracted the attention of Russian and foreign researchers. In the introduction, the author presented a brief overview of publications about His Serene Highness, which began to appear immediately after his death.
