Nikolai Fedorovich Fedorov is a Russian religious thinker and futurist philosopher, librarian, and innovative teacher. One of the founders of Russian cosmism.

He was called the “Moscow Socrates”. Leo Tolstoy, F. Dostoevsky, Vl. Solovyov spoke with respect and admiration about Fedorov and his views.

Nikolai Fedorovich Fedorov is not one of the well-known figures of Russian culture . Most often he is remembered as an extraordinary librarian, a real devotee of the book business, when it comes to the past of the All-Union State Library named after V.I. Lenin (Rumyantsev Museum).

But at the same time it turns out that Rumyantsevsky’s librarian museum developed an original philosophical teaching that amazed the most significant minds of his time. So F.M. Dostoevsky “read Fedorov’s thoughts as if they were his own,” L.N. Tolstoy is proud that he lives “at the same time as such a person.” V.Ya. Bryusov and A.M. Gorky showed great attention to Fedorov’s personality and his ideas, set out in the posthumously published two-volume Philosophy of the Common Cause. The latter called him “a wonderful, original thinker.” Gorky's direct interest in Fedorov's teaching is clearly expressed in his correspondence of the late 20s with O.D. Forsh and M.M. Prishvin. In recent years, people have begun to remember Fedorov as the first representative of the ideas of philosophical cosmism, the immediate predecessor of K.E. Tsiolkovsky.

However, to this day, Fedorov in many ways remains that “mysterious thinker”, “strange philosopher ", "mysterious old man", as he was constantly called in the few works directly devoted to him.
