A lot has been written about the life and work of the first president of the Republic of Estonia, Konstantin Päts, until July 30, 1940, that is, before his administrative expulsion with his family to Bashkiria to a settlement, newsreel footage and his radio speeches have been preserved. After the expulsion, the president lived for more than fourteen years.

What does a person think about, what does a person go through far from his homeland? A man who did a lot for his people, in the past, even under tsarism, sentenced to death in absentia, who went through revolutions and wars, who knew the honor and glory of a statesman of the highest rank, but remained a peasant in his soul, enrolled in a foreign land in a strange category of "former people outside citizenship” and exiled in a sober mind to live out the last years of his life in a closed psychiatric hospital.

The President of Estonia did not leave a diary about the last days of his life. But thirty-five pages of his own handwritten pre-prison and seven pages of prison notes remained, as well as numerous detailed reports of the NKVD agents surrounding him, in which the latter recorded verbatim the president’s statements on various life issues both in the last year of his life in exile and in cell No. 26 Ufa prison.

The author without emotion retold the facts that became known to him thanks to his long service in the Soviet special service - the KGB of the Estonian SSR.
