More info

The city of Tallinn suddenly acquired the status of capital in the era of revolutions and wars, during a period of turbulence in history - the beginning of the twentieth century, 1918. The capitals of neighboring countries - Latvia, Finland, Russia - have already shone. Tallinn was raised from a city of the Hanseatic Middle Ages, then a provincial and provincial city, by the first President of the Republic of Estonia, Konstantin Päts. It is known that he even endorsed the appearance of the facades of buildings on the main highways of the capital with his own hand. “An important thing was done - the heart of the new capital in Europe beat confidently. - Much has been created, but many unique projects have remained unfinished: the Labor Palace on the corner of Kaarli Boulevard and st. Roosikrantsi, the new Town Hall and the city bank on Viru Square, the Art Museum. Other projects were completed after World War II: Radio House, Tallinn Airport, Ministry of Defense building.
