In 1983, the Danilov Monastery was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church - the oldest monastery in Moscow, called by the Lord to again be the first in the church history of Russia in recent times. The revival of the Danilov Monastery is an undoubted miracle of our days. In just five years, the devastated temples of the monastery were restored and monastic life resumed within its walls. The monastic brotherhood of the Danilov Monastery raised many future bishops and abbots of monasteries for our Church. Archbishop Evlogy is the first abbot of the reviving Danilov Monastery, who bore all the difficulties of the beginning of restoration. The book is especially valuable in that it was written shortly after the events of which it tells, and is full of precious details that fade over time from memory. The benefactors of the monastery are mentioned with gratitude, and extensive comments allow us to trace the fate of the people mentioned in the book to the present day.
