Poem "Song of Hiawatha" is the most significant work of the classic American literature G. W. Longfellow. Having reworked the little-known legends of the North American Indians, Longfellow recreated in his epic poem the disappearing world of Indian myths and legends. This work is dominated by the feeling of the unity of man and nature, the feeling of spirituality and organic existence. The publication is accompanied by articles about the life and work of Longfellow and about various - historical, mythological and literary - sources of the "Song of Hiawatha". For the first time in Russia, 68 illustrations for the poem created by the outstanding American artist Harrison Fisher for the Indianapolis edition of 1906 are being reproduced.
