Another monograph by the historian of the Russian Church, Doctor of Historical Sciences S. S. Bychkov, is dedicated to the life of the confessor and martyr Archimandrite Tavrion (in the world Tikhon Danilovich Batozsky) (1898-1978). He had the good fortune to be a participant in almost all the major events of the Russian Church of the 20th century. 19 years of his life were spent in prisons, camps and exile. He took part in the secret elections of the patriarch in the autumn of 1926. Shortly after his release from indefinite exile in 1956, he became the rector of the Glinskaya Hermitage, where he was brought up from childhood. During Khrushchev's persecution, while serving in Ufa, he opposed the closure of churches and was deprived of registration. Patriarch Alexy I tried to consecrate him as a bishop at the height of Khrushchev's persecution. The last 10 years of his life were spent in Latvia, where, not far from the city of Jelgava, he served as the confessor of the Transfiguration Convent. The author of the monograph repeatedly lived for a long time in the monastery, communicating with Father Tavrion. After his death, he collected biographical materials and testimonies about the life of the elder, which formed the basis of this book.
