Many thousands of books have been written about the Second World War: scientific, artistic, journalistic, and memoir. Due to its fundamental nature, a special place in this Mont Blanc of literature is occupied by the memoirs of Winston Churchill, the greatest political and statesman of Great Britain of the 20th century. Four decades have passed since their release. And although the work was written hot on the heels of the great cataclysm, when much in the mind had not yet settled down and had not become history in the true sense, when the atmosphere of the Cold War, one of the creators of which was the author himself, could not help but affect what was written, “The Second World War" by W. Churchill has certainly stood the test of time. I think that not a single serious researcher studying the past world fire can ignore the conclusions of the fundamental work of a participant and eyewitness to the events of those now distant years. The author himself considered his work “The Second World War” as a continuation of the description of the history of the First World War, which he had previously outlined in three books. Churchill even admitted that both of these works could form a kind of “chronicle of the new Thirty Years’ War.”
One cannot help but see that the memoirs of the English politician are distinguished by their scale, insightful analysis, and bold historical assessments.
