Journalistic investigation of the tragedy and triumph of the domestic over-the-horizon radar combat system.

After the Second World War, the famous Englishman Winston Churchill said that radar was one of the greatest achievements of mankind in the 20th century. The discovery by the Soviet scientist Nikolai Kabanov of the effect of scattering by the earth's surface of short radio waves reflected by the ionosphere, made in 1947, made it possible to significantly expand the boundaries of the application of radar. He was the first in the world to show the potential for over-the-horizon radar, which makes it possible to detect targets at ranges up to several thousand kilometers. However, for many years, the implementation of Kabanov's scientific discovery remained an unsolvable technical problem. Soviet scientists Efim Shtyren, Vasily Shamshin, Efir Shustov and other designers were the first to dare to solve it in the early 60s of the last century. To create a real combat system of over-the-horizon radar, which was capable of detecting launches of ballistic missiles with nuclear weapons from the territory of the United States, was only possible in the 70s of the XX century by a team of scientists led by chief designer Franz Aleksandrovich Kuzminsky. However, due to intrigues in the Ministry of Radio Industry, he was undeservedly suspended from work. He failed to finalize the ZGRLS combat system. In the early 90s, developers and customers from the USSR-RF Ministry of Defense were subjected to unreasonable attacks in the Soviet, and then in the Russian press. They were accused of voluntarism and squandering huge budget funds. As early as 1991, a military journalist, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Babakin, refuted these accusations in one of his publications. "Veteran of Combat Operations", Laureate of the Prize of the Union of Journalists of Moscow, Colonel of the Reserve Alexander Babakin spent 18 years investigating the tragedy and triumph of the domestic over-the-horizon location. The documentary book-investigation provides answers to many questions of the confrontation between the USSR-RF and the USA in the field of creating missile attack warning systems.
