In her autobiographical book, Nina Ivanovna Alekseeva tells about the fate of her family in different periods of her life in the USSR and abroad, where her husband, Kirill Mikhailovich Alekseev, was sent through the People's Commissariat of Foreign Trade to Mexico in early May 1944. After the death in a plane crash of the USSR Ambassador to Mexico, K.A. Umansky, in November 1946, the Alekseev family emigrated to the United States. One of the reasons for the forced emigration was the urgent call of the Alekseevs to Moscow: apparently, it became known that Nina Ivanovna was the daughter of the enemy of the people, the Bolshevik Ivan Sautenko, who was repressed in 1937.
Then followed by long trials related to obtaining US citizenship. With the help of Alexandra Lvovna Tolstaya and her friends, the family first received a residence permit, and then American citizenship.
After the death of her husband and son, Nina Ivanovna decided to publish her memoirs about the "two worlds": about her long, full of interesting meetings (with politicians, people of art and science) and incredible events of life in the USSR, Mexico and the USA.
Living in a foreign land for a long time, the thought did not leave her about returning to her homeland, which she visited for the last time three months before her death on December 31, 2009...
