Западноевропейский эпос

The collection includes the largest and most famous epic poems of the Middle Ages:

“Beowulf”,

"Elder Edda" (songs about heroes),

"Song of the Nibelungs",

"The Song of Roland",

"The Song of Sid".

Created at different times in different environments, in different languages, the poems are united by heroic content. All of them glorify the exploits of a warrior-hero, waging a fierce struggle against the obstacles standing in his way: either in order to become the first and best; or overcoming evil monsters; or fighting the enemies of his people. The heroics of the poems reflect some generally significant moments and features of the life of the people in the Middle Ages.
