The poetic anthology covers two and a half centuries - from the founders of the new Russian poetry Trediakovsky and Lomonosov to the present day. The selection and sequence of poetic works in it are subject to the task of showing the history of the development of Russian verse, its most characteristic features (metric and strophic repertoire, the evolution of rhythm, rhyme, intonational-rhythmic forms). The book is organized chronologically and is divided into five main sections: the 18th century, the first half of the 19th century, the second half, the beginning of the 20th century, the Soviet period. A brief appendix contains samples of pre-syllabic and syllabic poetry of the 17th - early 18th centuries. The introductory article provides basic information about the features of Russian verse and its evolution; each section is preceded by a brief description of the verse of the given period, and verse notes are given at the end of the sections.

The anthology is addressed to all lovers of Russian poetry and can be used for educational purposes at the philological faculties of universities and pedagogical institutes.
