The number of books Fast wrote is almost equal to the number of years he lived: eighty-five or six. Among them are "April Morning", "Freedom Road" and "The Last Frontier", which have become American classics and are listed as compulsory reading in US schools; the novels "Spartacus" (which formed the basis of the famous film with Kirk Douglas) and "My illustrious brothers" (about the Maccabean uprising), recognized in Israel as one of the best fiction books from the history of the Jewish people; a six-volume epic, begun with the novel "Immigrants", called by journalists "California saga" and so on and so forth.

Soviet readers of the 1950s knew Fast as a "faithful friend of the Soviet Union", "a firm communist", "an ardent fighter for peace", who was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1952 "For strengthening peace among peoples". Along with the same "Road of Freedom" or "The Last Frontier", the story "The Passion for Sacco and Vanzetti", his novel "Silas Timberman" about the American intelligentsia, brilliantly translated by E. Golysheva and B. Izakov, was very popular, in which we do not without surprise, they discovered feelings, thoughts, judgments, and even fates close to us.
