In his book, Alexander Zerkalov explores the Yershalaim chapters of the novel "The Master and Margarita" through the prism of the primary sources of Bulgakov's text - the canonical Gospels, the Talmud, the works of ancient historians and later authors, which are directly or indirectly indicated by the text of the famous novel. Extensive erudition allows the author to convincingly prove that behind the artistic images of the novel there was a deep study of the subject. Thus, the figure of Bulgakov appears in a new light, and the text of the novel is read in a new way. At the same time, A. Zerkalov does not reject what was written about Bulgakov's work before him, but simply goes further in revealing the philosophical concept of The Master and Margarita.
Bulgakov is shown by A.Zerkalov as both a subtle researcher of the novel's sources and a thoughtful interpreter of them. Moreover, Bulgakov's interpretation, according to A. Zerkalov, was seriously influenced by the time in which the novel was written - the time of the Stalinist terror and the suppression of free thought in any form.
Of the studies examining the connection between the novel and the New Testament, the most interesting is Alexander Zerkalov's book "The Gospel of Mikhail Bulgakov". This is a strong author whose ideas are interesting, even if they are controversial or simply wrong.
