The author traced his own genealogical tree from the foundation of the Lutheran colony in the village of Upper Suetuk, where his grandfather Jaan Pool (1795-1845) lived. The chronicle is supplemented with diaries and letters from grandfather, brothers, uncle about serving in the tsarist army, with the “whites” and “reds”, about World War II, about the Ozerlag and Yuzhlag camps through which many Estonians had to go.

The author is the first and probably the last living witness and participant of the described events.
