Grigory Petrovich Danilevsky is a Russian and Ukrainian writer and publicist. His historical stories and novels brought him wide fame - “Princess Tarakanova”, “Burnt Moscow”, “Black Year”, which arouse constant reader interest. A masterfully developed plot, accuracy of characteristics and descriptions of the situation are considered the defining features of G. P. Danilevsky’s style. In 1879, the writer combined several of his works ("sinless tales about ghosts, apparitions of spirits and other demonic things") into the cycle "Yuletide Evenings", in which he turned to the genre of the Yuletide story - one of the most popular in the literature of the 19th century.
