Fazil Iskander was born in Sukhumi in 1929. Early lost his father, deported outside the USSR. He left for Moscow, studied at the Library, graduated from the Literary Institute. He worked as a newspaper correspondent, leaving for central Russia. Started to print. He returned to Moscow and stayed here forever.
"Mass-produced, plastic, disposable literature should not embarrass anyone," he said at the presentation of one of the literary awards, of which he has a whole collection - from international to modest magazines. - Even those who use it know its price: I read it and put it in the basket. The everlasting and unmistakable sign of a true work of art is our desire to return to it.
To Iskander, to reread his books, charming, sad and cheerful, reader must be returned.
