Joam Dacosta, who has been hiding from the authorities for many years under an assumed name, is accused of a serious crime to which he was not involved. This detective intrigue and adventure-filled journey through the Amazon formed the basis of the novel "Jangada", written by the famous French writer Jules Verne.
"The Shipwreck of the Jonathan" is one of the last major works of the writer, which saw the light after his death. In the center of the story is a lonely wanderer, an anarchist in his worldview, Kau-dzher, who left the civilized world for the Indians of Tierra del Fuego. By chance, he becomes the main organizer of the rescue of immigrants from an American clipper in distress. The novel is about how his beliefs crumble under conditions of anarchy and lawlessness.
