The textbook is built on the material of classical works of children's literature - these are poetic tales by K. Chukovsky, stories by E. Charushin, poems by S. Marshak. The texts of these works are included in the textbook in full, without abbreviations. This is due to the concept of this educational system, which involves working with the form and meaning of works, and not discussing their life material; the meaning is embodied in the whole work, in every detail, and any reductions would cause irreparable damage to the learning process. For the most part, the works of classical children's writers included in the textbook are familiar to second-graders from preschool childhood. Now the position "listener" is replaced by the position "reader"; the naive-realistic perception of poems, stories and fairy tales is gradually being replaced by an aesthetic one. Two lines are consistently drawn in the textbook: a) acquaintance with the process of creating works (in connection with which the initial and intermediate editions of works, drafts and diary entries are introduced into the educational activities of schoolchildren); b) attention to the work of an illustrator, the ratio of text and illustration in a children's book (in connection with which the works are published with drawings by V. Konashevich, M. Dobuzhinsky, V. Lebedev, who illustrated the very first editions of the works of K. Chukovsky and S. Marshak; stories by E. Charushin are published with illustrations by the author).
