More info

Franciska Ermler's Riga detective consists of eight stories, seven of which have already been published in Latvian by various publishing houses - "The Alchemy of the Riga Press" (- "Rīgas zīmoga alķīmija"), by the Zvaigzne ABC publishing house, "The Passage of Modernity" ("Jūgenda pasāža”) by the Mansard Publishing House, and the next five books were published by the Latvijas Media Publishing House (“Rīgas buča”, “Meistarstiķis”, “Manuskripts”, “Bliks”, “Prove”). The entire Riga detective story has been translated into Russian by the author himself and is now being published. The first story, which has already been published in Latvian under the title "Rīgas zīmoga alķīmija", is now rewritten in Russian, supplemented with a new image of the "black sun" and renamed "Arsenal".

Franciska Ermler explains her transition to Russian by the fact that after losing her eyesight five years ago she was forced to completely switch to the Russian language environment: “The Russian Internet is a treasure trove for people - there is everything and more than everything, and most importantly, that it is available in audio format. It was, of course, difficult to dare and start writing in the language of Pushkin, Dostoevsky and ... not to mention Russian fairy tales, where conciseness, clarity of thought enchants and inspires with every syllable. But to be honest, there was no other choice. Unless I wanted to stay in a black dumb void and had the will to continue writing. Considering that my native language is Latgalian and I grew up in Rezekne on Soviet cartoons, I, perhaps slowly but stubbornly, rebuilt myself. There were other developments for this - ten years ago I graduated from the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors in Moscow. True, there I only wrote scripts in Russian, which requires possession of a more pragmatic part of the language. So I ventured into prose and, thanks to the support and great meticulous work of the literary editor Olga Chekhova, now I have obtained the result that can already be offered to readers.

Each of the stories is built as a separate detective story in the strictest canons of the genre with a closed circle of suspects, and is based on specific artifacts of the Riga culture and the study of their history. authorities and rulers, the crimes are hushed up, plunged into oblivion, but do not disappear without a trace, turning into painful family nightmares. But the author does not limit himself to this study of the Riga mentality and its origins - the stories understand the nature of creativity and creation in general.
