Плутовской роман

This book is the first attempt in Russian to bring together some characteristic examples of the genre that originated in Spain in the middle of the 16th century and which soon spread with such unparalleled success throughout Western Europe and crossed far beyond the ocean, to the countries of Latin America. This genre was called "picaresque novel". The significance of the picaresque novel for the development of world literature is enormous.
