Iris Murdoch (1919 - 1998) - one of the most famous modern British writers, a philosopher by education, taught for many years at Oxford. Her works are the most subtle psychological analysis of human relationships, complex and intricate, as most often happens in life. In the novel `Wild Rose` she appears as a connoisseur of the female soul - lonely and suffering in a world that in itself is a tangle of contradictions: bright feelings and vile vices, rampant flesh and sublime thirst for art, frankness `to the very bottom` and cunning deceit. Overcoming the seeming predestination, the predestination of existence, the heroine, a young woman, longing for love and understanding, finds a way out in gaining inner freedom.
