Geoffrey Chaucer, the greatest representative of medieval literature, laid the foundation for all English literature with his “Canterbury Tales”. A motley group of 29 men and women from different parts of England - people of different ages, social status and temperament - travel from London to Canterbury to the tomb of St. Thomas Becket. To brighten up the long journey, pilgrims tell their stories. The pilgrims' stories are interspersed with comic situations that await them on the way and during their overnight stay; the travelers discuss what they have heard, argue, get excited and enjoy life.
