The author of the book offered to the reader, Lieutenant-General Alexander Alexandrovich Mosolov (1854-?), served in the cavalry Life Guards regiment, took the main post of his life - head of the office of the Ministry of the Imperial Court - in March 1900, from the spring of 1916 he became envoy to Romania. From 1933 he lived in Bulgaria, where he wrote his memoirs. Far from embellishing the tsar, noting many of his weaknesses, A.A. Mosolov remained a sincere monarchist, and not only on paper: he participated in attempts to save the life of Nicholas and his family in 1918, was one of the organizers of the "All-Russian Monarchist Congress" at the Bavarian resort of Reichengale in May 1921. A.A. Mosolov’s memoirs, of course, are subjective, in some ways inaccurate, but this is a living narration of a witness and participant in the events about which the book was written.
The proposed edition reproduces the text printed by the emigrant weekly "For you" (Riga) in No. 1-5 and 7-32 for 1937, without any cuts and changes. For the convenience of readers, the book is provided with an index of names. The magazine publication of 1937 was followed by a separate edition under a slightly changed title - "At the Emperor's Court" (Riga, b.g., ed. "Filin"). We keep the magazine name of the memoirs.
