The collection is based on the works of B. L. Pasternak: poems concerning the art of music, pages of autobiographical prose, essays about his favorite composers - Chopin and Scriabin, as well as the poet's musical works - a sonata and preludes published for the first time.
The work of B.L. Pasternak is illuminated in the book with the help of materials that reveal the musical atmosphere that surrounded the poet from childhood. An essay by E.B. Pasternak (the poet’s son) is published, telling about the role of music in his father’s life. Fragments are given from the memoirs of A.L. Pasternak (the poet’s brother), which tell the story of the not devoid of dramatic fate of the poet’s mother, pianist R.I. Kaufman.
Several dozen paintings by L.O. Pasternak (the poet’s father) are reproduced; among them are portraits of outstanding composers and performers. Also included are excerpts from the correspondence of the poet, who, in his own words, “couldn’t imagine life outside of music.”
The extensive illustrative material in the collection also includes photographs from the Pasternak family archive.
