The album reproduces more than three hundred artistic objects found by the Novgorod archaeological expedition over fifty years of its field work.

These objects - and most of them are published for the first time - which accompanied and decorated the lives of the townspeople for five centuries, from the 10th to the 15th, show that the creation of beauty was an organic component of the life of medieval Novgorod.

The creators of beauty are jewelers and carpenters, blacksmiths and shoemakers, bone carvers and foundry workers, turners and glassblowers. The main feature of the applied art of ancient Novgorod is its nationality.

The album contains wood carvings and wooden sculpture, bone and stone carvings, products made of non-ferrous and precious metals made using the techniques of casting, engraving, filigree, cloisonne enamel, products made of glass, leather, iron, ceramics and other materials .
