The exhibition reflects the unique feature of the State Russian Museum - the largest collection of national fine art in Russia - which is that in the collection and exhibition of the museum, next to the works of professional artists, a remarkable collection of works by folk artists is stored and displayed. And this exhibition is an attempt, taking advantage of the rare opportunities of our collection, to identify and convincingly show the unity of the nature of professional and folk (or so-called “naive”, “primitive”) creativity. It is interesting that the idea of ​​such an exhibition arose right now, at the end of the 20th century, as if repeating the surge of interest in the problems of nationality in art that marked the last decades of the 19th century, which prepared the short and bright flowering of the Russian avant-garde.
