On the eve of the turmoil. XVI century. Series: History of the Fatherland in novels, stories, documents. M. Young Guard, 1990 621s. hardcover, regular format.

The next volume in the series tells about Russia at the end of the 16th century, on the eve of the Time of Troubles. The book includes K. Badigin's novel "Shipwreck off the Island of Hope" and notes "On the Russian State" by J. Fletcher, the English ambassador in Moscow at the court of Fyodor Ioannovich.

D. Fletcher's work "On the Russian State", published for the first time in England in 1591, occupies one of the prominent places among the sources on the history of Russia in the 16th century. The English poet and diplomat Giles Fletcher (1548-1611) in this work described the life and customs of various layers of Russian society. This is one of the most detailed and critical works by foreigners about Russia in the 16th century. The book was first published in Russian in 1848 and was immediately seized by censorship; For more than fifty years, publication was prohibited in Russia. Therefore, when Suvorin published Fletcher’s work in 1905, the book was so popular that he had to publish three editions in a row. This edition is from 1990, after it there were several more reprints, but the big question is whether there will be more reprints in Russia.

Konstantin Sergeevich Badigin (1910-1984), famous Soviet navigator, captain of the famous icebreaker "Georgy Sedov", geographer, Hero of the Soviet Union, is the author of a number of maritime stories, novellas and historical novels. His novel “Shipwreck off the Island of Hope” is dedicated to the dramatic events in the history of Russia at the end of the 16th century, when the preconditions for a peasant war were brewing in the country, and is distinguished by its sharp plot and fascinating narrative. The author vividly and authentically reflects the life of Russia at that time. Artistically reproducing historical episodes: the murder of Ivan the Terrible, the beginning of the reign of Boris Godunov, the murder of Tsarevich Dmitry, the conspiracies of the Shuisky and Mstislavsky princes - the author clearly shows a person in time and time in a person, helping to see and understand the inextricable connection of times.

The book is in excellent condition, no comments.
