Белая книга о потерях, причиненных народу Эстонии оккупациями (L)

In 1992, the Riigikogu (parliament of the Republic of Estonia) formed the State Commission for Investigation of the Repressive Policies of the Occupation Forces (abbreviated as GKRRPO). The ultimate goal of these investigations was to be “… the publication of a ‘White Book’ – a scientific overview of all the damage and all the losses suffered by the people of Estonia during the occupations.”1 After 12 years of research, the SCRD presents the result of its work - a review of facts and materials in the form of eight original studies that consider four sets of problems: population, culture, environment and economics. In the research, first of all, archival materials located in Estonia were used, the opportunity for acquaintance with which was opened only in 1991. Access to the archives of the two occupation authorities is still impossible to this day, however, the authors used all the published materials.2 For these reasons, these studies mainly present the following data: 1) scientifically documented data on losses and damage; 2) estimates based on these data. The structure of the individual articles in this book is similar, with a brief summary first followed by explanatory text giving a more detailed overview of the extent of the losses suffered and their study. Details are discussed in the referenced documents; sources and special studies are indicated in the bibliography. The Commission expresses great gratitude to all those who participated in the writing of the book.
